Education

LaGrange is part of the Troup County School System, which is comprised of 15 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, and two magnet schools. A number of private and parochial schools are offered in the area as well. Once students graduate they may attend a number of area colleges and universities such as LaGrange College, West Georgia Technical College, and Columbus State University.

Attractions

LaGrange Symphony has been providing residents with beautiful orchestral masterpieces for the last 20 years. Previous shows have included “Sorcerers, Witches and Things” (a salute to Halloween), Viva Mozart, and Voices of Spring. In addition, the symphony holds an annual competition for young musicians every year. Youth programs are also held, including a Youth Orchestra and String Ensemble.

Callaway Stadium is the premier football/soccer stadium of LaGrange. This state-of-the-art facility seats 5,200 fans and has a press box on the home side. Troup County High School, LaGrange High School, Callaway High School and LaGrange College play all of their home football and soccer games here. The Stadium was originally built in 1958 and was re-vamped in 2004 when it had field turf installed as well as a jumbotron scorecard.

Hills & Dales Estate is a beautiful historic home that was turned into a museum and opened to the public in 2004. The lush gardens that surround the estate have been in bloom since 1832, and the house was built in 1916. The estate itself boasts a solid collection of 19th century artwork, antiques and furniture, making the Hills & Dales Estate a must-see visit for any history or nature lover.

Parks and Recreation

Highland Country Club is home to an innovative blend of sporting, dining and social events. The superb 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Donald Ross and is the most popular feature. Beyond the course’s fantastic design, the course includes a driving range, pro shop, chipping and putting green. In addition, the club includes tennis courts and a swimming pool complete with wading pool and lounge area. The club’s exquisite dining facilities include a phenomenal ballroom that is very popular for weddings, dining rooms and even card rooms.

Surrounded by emerald-green forests and rolling hills is West Point Lake. West Point Lake stretches 35 miles across the Alabama-Georgia state line. The lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating and camping. Five campgrounds are available on the lake, each of which includes grilling and BBQ pits, laundry rooms and showers. Thirty-four different boat launches are located on the lake, where popular activities include boating activities include fishing, wind-surfing, sailing and power-boating.

Residents of LaGrange fulfill their workout needs at the Mike Daniel Recreational Center. The center features an indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, workout rooms and roller rink. In addition, the center hosts a number of recreational sports teams. Previous sports teams have included soccer, baseball, swim and tennis. Additional recreational facilities include Ann & Don McCluskey Tennis Center, Boyd Park and the William J. Griggs Recreational Center.
